Last week at the MICA library I picked up from their sale section a huge find. Literally. BAUHAUS by Hans Wingler was published in 1969 by MIT Press, designed by Muriel Cooper. I’ve enjoyed ingesting the information inside the book but what I love more is the design and form. The larger than life size and brooding typography on the cover emulate the harsh angles and structure of the Bauhaus design. The black and white color pallet re-enforce the importance of structure in the Bauhaus teachings. Inside the book is an enormous resource for the history of the entire school in all four locations. Records, biographies, works are all contained in this giant volume. Its sort of the “box set” of Bauhaus books and it looks like it. In the classic Buellerian way I say “If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up…” or scour your local library book sales for great deals.Bauhaus by Hans Wingler, Published by MIT Press 1969.
